PROVINCIAL SHEARING Championships
The highlight of the weekend will be the Provincial Open title, a premier event where teams of four shearers, representing each province of Ireland, travel from across the country to compete for top honours in a spectacular showcase of skill, speed, and tradition. With competitors going head-to-head in both machine shearing and traditional blade shearing, and each team featuring a junior, intermediate, senior, and open level shearer, this competition celebrates the full depth of Ireland’s shearing talent. Bolstered by a substantial prize fund and captivating a huge audience keen to witness world-class ability, the Provincial Open promises to be a brilliant display of the very best of Ireland’s shearers.
Overview
The Provincial Shearing Championship is a team-based competition representing the four provinces of Ireland:
• Leinster (Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow)
• Ulster (Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Tyrone, Derry)
• Munster (Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford)
• Connaught (Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo)
Each province will be represented by a team of four shearers competing in a relay-format event.
Team Composition
Each provincial team will consist of:
• 1 Junior Shearer
• 1 Intermediate Shearer
• 1 Senior Shearer
• 1 Open Shearer
Qualification:
The top competitor from the heats in each grade (Junior, Intermediate, Senior, Open) will be selected to represent their province.
Competition Format
• The competition will be run in a relay format.
• Each province/team will be allocated one stand.
• Shearers will compete in order of grade:
1. Junior (2 Sheep each)
2. Intermediate (3 Sheep each)
3. Senior (4 Sheep each)
4. Open (6 Sheep each)
